Your Excellency
1. A very hilarious and unusual plot for a Nollywood movie. I don’t quite remember any Nollywood movie of the past attempting an important story with this much comedy. Most demographics will enjoy this one.
2. The movie is definitely an attempt to spread certain positive messages. From good governance to being loyal and being original, the writers made sure they passed some positive messages.
3. Recorded some of the most positive reaction from the audience. There were very many laughter bursts. It’s a good-feeling type of movie.
1. Some characters and scenes seemed unnecessary. There were scenes that seemed totally unbelievable given how the story had built.
2. EbonyLife seem to love the idea of a polygamous billionaire patriarch with a troubled home, cue “Chief Daddy”. All movies don’t have to build around this narrative.
2. For Trump supporters, there were both subtle and flagrant jabs thrown at the US President. That shouldn’t be a surprise for Trump supporters anyway.
For all it’s worth, well done to the EvonyLife crew, Mo Abudu, Funke Akindele-Bello, the entire cast and crew. Though not a perfect movie, it sparked many laughter bursts from the audience and I get a feeling many more people will be trooping into cinemas to see this movie over the next couple of months.
While Nollywood movies are generally greatly improving, “Your Excellency” makes a great case for the effort and new creativity coming onto the scene. The movie is a fictional comedy on how the modern era social media craze could mix with political campaigns, it also pits the young generation politicians against the older generation even though the older generation wins out yet again. There were also reality TV personality ‘Candy’ and popular blogger played by Toni Tones.
It’s a comic exposé on the mishmash in the Nigeria social media space vis-à-vis events around an election period and everything in between.
The “Ajadi Dance” is definitely a piece of the movie that could become a comic trend. How fitting that would be for a movie that emphasises on the power of social media.
A great date or family movie, Your Excellency in a nutshell is a comic of normally serious matters whilst passing some important messages to all demographics. And yes, quite predictably, there will be a second instalment.
Star Performer- Akin Lewis
Akin Lewis might not be a popular name in Nollywood but his performance definitely should put his name on more people’s lips. He’s the presidential aspirant who remains true to himself and had the entire country doing the “Ajadi Dance”.
Can-do-better Performer- Ikechukwu Onunakwu
It feels as though Ikechukwu could’ve put himself more into the roles he played. His acting felt a bit watery but he barely escapees because this is a comedy.
