Dear Affy
1. Definitely star studded. Heck, even Chinedu Ikedieze makes an interesting cameo along with other Nollywood heavyweights.
2. The plot twists were very interesting. How do you explain a love story made in heaven with a pregnancy made from sowhere around hell. Well you’ll see once you watch the movie.
3.
1. The plot twists felt a bit too much at some point. I know the director just wanted to create more drama but some of it felt out of depth and bland.
2. It seems the new trick in Nollywood is to throw on big names, no matter how wishy-washy the plot and directing are, Nigerians will watch because their favourite actors made a cameo.
This movie makes me feel in a way I can’t really put to words. It’s definitely not one of the best movies I’ve seen this year yet it’s not gross and so is at best average.
Dear Affy tells an interesting contemporary story with a lot of plot twists and turns. It successfully continues to dribble as you never quite know what or who next would come under the radar of an accidental pregnancy. In the end, a most unexpected person is the father of the unborn child, a totally unexpected marriage takes place and the choice of who to love is still a debate. Crazy concept eh?
However, thing about this movie is, the choice of actors for certain characters might not have been the best. The directing was quite average and the plot twists which are the highlights of the movie had some undercooked thinking in them.
Nollywood has to start demanding more from actors, if you have a great idea as a producer, demand all you can from your actors for all your money’s worth.
Overall, it’s both good thinking and undercooked thinking. It’s like an undercooked, underworked piece of good thinking. Wasn’t so sure how to place it whether slightly above or slightly below average. I’ll leave that to you to choose.
Star Performer- Bimbo Akintola
She pips this prize because of a few scenes where she does put herself in. In a movie where most of the acting was average, Bimbo goes just a step further.
Can-do-better Performer- Teni and Toyin Abraham
I felt their scenes were very unnecessary and even if the producers just wanted them in some way, I don’t think they justified their acting.
