Special Jollof

by

Special Jollof focuses on the story of a Caucasian female journalist who is completely exasperated after finding that her fiance was cheating on her with a Nigerian immigrant. As a journalist she goes undercover to prove that Nigerian immigrants are mostly frauds who’ve overstayed their visa allowance. The entire story then focuses on how she tries to find proof and all the drama that ensues. An interesting story you don’t find so often in Nollywood, so big ups to the producers who came up with the idea.

It is important that Africans tell their story. Africans and indeed Nigerians are some of the most accomplished and successful immigrants in the US but a lot of people may not know. The movie also shows the interesting support system that Nigerians offer one another in the US despite the May tribal wrangling in Nigeria.
These are the type of films that increase viewers consciousness and help to rewrite certain narratives about Nigerian immigrants in the US while also entertaining with good plot twists.
Shot in two locations- the US and Nigeria, the picture quality was great, the acting was mostly great and the plot was interesting enough. Only a few parts were underdone but for the most part it was a good watch.
Star Performer- Mary Magdalene
Our first time seeing her on our Nollywood screens and she performed well. Quirky, witty and pretty, she plays Rachel, the damsel of the movie.
Can-Do-Better Performer- Sit Out
We’ll sit this one out and say though the acting wasn’t all through perfect, the least you got was decent acting. So no one goes home as the CDB Performer today.
