Special Jollof
1. An interesting plot that sheds light on Nigerian immigrants in the US, their successes and struggles. You don’t see many movies attempt this type of script.
2. For the most part everyone did a pretty decent job. The cast and crew alike.
3. An overall great movie. Decent is the least you’ll get even in the worst scenes. Good for Nollywood.
1. Some acting was a bit watery. Very few scenes but they were either unnecessary or should’ve been better done.
2. You get a sense that the romance won’t play deep enough into viewers’ emotion. They could’ve made the romance deeper and more convincing than they did.
A very decent movie. Most of it was well done. Only a few scenes came off as under-par. A good look into Nigerian immigrants struggles and successes both in Nigeria and the USA. Generally a pretty decent watch.
Special Jollof focuses on the story of a Caucasian female journalist who is completely exasperated after finding that her fiance was cheating on her with a Nigerian immigrant. As a journalist she goes undercover to prove that Nigerian immigrants are mostly frauds who’ve overstayed their visa allowance. The entire story then focuses on how she tries to find proof and all the drama that ensues. An interesting story you don’t find so often in Nollywood, so big ups to the producers who came up with the idea.
These are the type of films that increase viewers consciousness and help to rewrite certain narratives about Nigerian immigrants in the US while also entertaining with good plot twists.
