Tòkunbò
So, let’s summarize the movie, Tokunbo, a car smuggler, decides to leave his dangerous life of delivering illegal cars to a notorious gangster, Gaza, after the birth of his son. Determined to become a responsible husband to Lisa and a good father to Chris, he starts working as a taxi driver. However, eighteen months later, Tokunbo faces a difficult choice to either watch his sick son die or return to Gaza to lend the money needed to save him. Despite the warnings from a female friend who was also a victim of Gaza, Tokunbo returns to the gangster for help.Gaza, however, refuses to assist him. As Tokunbo leaves to continue driving passengers, he hears a strange phone ringing in the back seat of his car. Upon answering, he is instructed to receive a package and deliver another shortly after. Later, he finds a child in his car seat and is given three hours to provide the “package” to the Seme border.

Uncertain of his decision and feeling threatened, Tokunbo risks delivering the child, unaware that the girl, Nike, is the daughter of the Central Bank Governor, Folashade. Raymond, the deputy governor, calls his friend Folashade to console and reassure her upon hearing the news about her child’s kidnapping. Unknown to her, the brain behind everything is the same Raymond, whom she trusts so much with the support of her beloved PA.
Lisa, who is kidnapped and held hostage with her sick baby, calls her husband to inform him that their son is dead. Raymond initially kidnaps them to ensure Tokunbo does the job well. Tokunbo, unable to handle this sad news, drives into the sea. Ultimately, things take a terrible turn for Raymond, Folashade’s PA, and Gaza.

Well, to be frank, asides the intriguing cinematography which made the driving look like a fast &furious series, there really was no outstanding storyline, the plot seemed practically empty, this was one of the movies you just wanted to keep skipping to the end so as not to fall asleep, there was a bit of introduction of comic relief through Funnybone who acted as Tokunbo’s friend, however, it still looked more like an enduring watch than an enjoyable one.
I felt the plot twist could have been done around Tokunbo than even the Governor’s kidnapped daughter, we were left to focus on the titular protagonist who had less relation to the storyline except the quest to save his dying child, it did seem like the writer was more concerned with showing us action scenes than a mind-intriguing plot, well we enjoyed the action scenes, but there practically was no story.

Also, Chidi Mokeme was definitely not the best cast for that “Gaza” role, it was so obvious he struggled with the Yoruba language, the character could have been built around his native tongue for easy adaptation or better still, an actor like Remilekun Khalid “Reminisce” Shafaru or Femi Branch would have been perfect cast for that role.
Cast in this are: Gideon Okeke, Funlola Aofiyebi-Raimi, Chidi Mokeme, Adunni Ade, Darasimi Nadi, Majid Michel, Funlola Aofiye, Norbert Young and others
The movie is a production of Ramsey Nouah studios and SOZO films, produced by Joy Odiete and Chris Odeh and the Directing by Ramsey Nouah.
Star Performer(s)- Funlola Aofiyebi-Raimi
Funlola Aofiyebi-Raimi is accustomed to delivering stellar perfomances in her movies, and in this also she doesn’t let her guards down, despite a vague plot, she brought some flavour to the story
Can-Do-Better Performer(s)-. Chidi Mokeme
Chidi Mokeme is a fantastic actoro but in this one, he struggled with the Yoruba language, which made his acting below par, hence he falls under this category in our review
From All of Us at RealNollywood, we rate the movie “Tokunbo” a 55% .
