AYINLA
1. The movie does well in educating the young generation on the music legend "Ayinla Omowura", also educating the hip hop generation on the Apala music genre.
2. The movie had content, you could tell there was content as the trajectory of Ayinla's life was well portrayed with every scene connecting to the previous, no unecessary scene.
3. The acting was great, and if the acting was great, then the directing must be commended. Baba Tunde Kelani has become a sage in the movie industry.
4. To be candid, the movie does well in grandeur with few Nollywood big names. It might be said much was achieved with less budget.
5. The cinematography was great. We were catapulted into the scenery of the 70'sand 80's
1. I expected there would be an after movie scene of someone who was in the band of Ayinla Omowura to give one or two remarks about the Apala legend. The ending could have been better.
A must watch if you delight in some historical legend and musicology. Also a good watch for some epic and comedy.
Ayinla is a musical biopic based on the life of Ayinla Yusuf popularly known as Ayinla Omowura, an Apala musician who was stabbed to death by his manager named Bayewu in a bar fight on May 6, 1980 at Abeokuta. The film premiered on June 13, 2021 in Lagos and was released to theatres on June 18, 2021 directed by Tunde Kelani and produced by Jadesola Osiberu.
The movie riding on the fame of the Apala legend, does well to satisfy the craving for historical nostalgia by viewers
The movie begins with a scene that potrayed the worst of Ayinla Omowura. It depicted a cunning, crafty musician who could go to any length to maximise and make his way to stardom for optimal financial gain. He manipulated his patron in a live play to go do another live show for which he had earlier been commissioned. The movie however then takes us through the life of the Apala maestro, who rose to fame with his music being sought for even at the International level with many of his awe-striking gigs. This fame would then unfold some events which would navigate Ayinla’s life.
The movie which premiered on June 13, 2021 and released on June 18, 2021 is one of Tunde Kelani’s finest. “Saworo ide” and “Magun” are not soon forgotten, two epic movies by him as well. The directing in this movie was top-notch, as everything done portrayed events that could be related to in the 70’s and 80’s.
Also, after such great work on “Sugar rush” and “Isoken”, Jadesola Osiberu doesn’t fail to bring a certain standard to our screens. Production was great.
The movie stars some of Nollywood’s finest, with Lateef Adedimeji taking the lead role acting as “Ayinla Omowura”, he does a very good job in portraying Ayinla. His lipsing and sing along was excellent, you could almost think he was the one singing. He also brought some panache to the character of Ayinla. Other notable star acts are Kunle Afolayan, Bimbo Manuel, Ade Laoye, Omowumi Dada, Adebowale Adedayo(Mr Macaroni).

Three hearty cheers to the lead cast, Lateef Adedimeji is a very fast rising star in the Nigerian Movie Industry, he has shown over time he has what it takes to be a force to be reckoned with. He made Ayinla’s role loving to watch, his lipsing and sing along was perfect, nothing short of excellence. He made Ayinla reborn in the hearts of many
