GLAMOUR GIRLS

by

Emma(Sharon Ooja), a stripper is fired from her stripping job when wrongly accused of stealing a client’s ring by Nzeribe(James Gardiner) a socialite’s bodyguard who has a personal ambition towards her. Her job loss leads her seeking refuge in a world of desperation to get back on her feet. She then gets a connect to Donna(Nse Ekpe-Etim), a high class escort procurer who is initially thrown off by Emma’s seemingly cheap appearance, however, Emma giving every reason why she must be hired gets a job with Donna, leading her to a world of luxury and opulence with loads of scheming plots and twists. This world of schemes sees Jemma(Joselyn Dumas) an Ex-escort in desperate need to save her dying husband’s life seek financial assistance from Donna, whom then gives her a last escort job which she reluctantly accepts, this leads her to meet big-boy Alexandre(Chuks “Lynxx” Edozien), an accountant who manages money belonging to wealthy men, however, they have a short-lived romance as she snuffs life out of him in an attempt to protect her son from an inhumane action meted by him on her son. Being scared of his death, she contacts Donna for help, who then sees Alexander’s death as an opportunity to cart away with the huge money belonging to these wealthy men. Aftermath events cause intense commotion as these wealthy men would stop at nothing to get information about their money which Donna now in the picture tries as much as possible to get a bite of the cake by getting a part of the money by all cost, with almost everyone as well wanting their share. Endless schemes and twists are played towards the ending of the movie, with betrayal and deceit being the order of the day.

A Netflix Originals released on June 24, 2022

Made to follow the pattern of the 1994 & 1996 Classic “Glamour Girls”, the movie tries in its own way to portray the contemporary lifestyle of socialites.

As much as we must commend the costuming, location, and cinematography, however, the storyline does have notable flaws. The storyline seemed rush especially towards the ending part of the movie. Most scenes in sequence. Every scene seemed to make no sense for some strange but apparent reasons. This film left me with several unanswered questions: For example,  What Alexandre did wasn’t clearly portrayed, also how did Donna come to have a third hard drive? How did Emma go through a major character transformation in six months? Why did Donna seek assistance from the woman who despised her guts? Why did Zeribe betray Emma when they appeared to be in love? How did Jemma and Donna resolve their initial disagreements? So many questions, so few answers really, what was with the rush or impatience?

Noteworthy was the film’s homage to the 1994 classic. During Donna’s search for assistance, we see her meet two of the original Glamour Girls. The producers did an excellent job including this because it gave old viewers a sense of nostalgia while also introducing new viewers to some of television’s most iconic characters.

Star Act- Nse Ekpe-Etim (Donna)

The movie rides on the wheels of notable Nollywood stars. Nse Ekpe-Etim delivers her role with much professionalism as she always does

Can do better Performer- Nil

The movie might have faced harsher crictism if it was to have a can do better performer, they all did okay.

Final Verdict- Well, our final verdict is it was good to acknowledge the Classic, however, whatever is what doing is what doing well.
