‘QUEEN LATEEFAH’: WUNMI TORIOLA MAKES BOLD ATTEMPT IN THE CINEMA SPACE

Yoruba-English actress, Wunmi Toriola makes a new release titled ‘Queen Lateefah’, the movie which was released to the cinemas on September 27 has gotten mixed reactions.

Well, from the cover image you definitely would have an incline of what the storyline would be like, soft life vs trenches, 1 billion gang vs urgent 2k, the rich vs  the poor.

The movie follows a sharp, street-smart woman living a fake life. She’s from the slums but presents herself as a high-class Lagos socialite. Who would have thought? Outwardly, she’s polished and boujee, a prim and proper con artist. Through her deceit, she meets a rich man who falls deeply in love with her. She swears not to let herself fall in love in order to get his money. But what does she end up choosing? Love or money? And does her secret come out? You’ll have to watch Queen Lateefah to find out.

Well, nothing outside the box, the storyline is straightforward, but the ending isn’t what you’d expect. You might predict how things will go for her, but trust me, it doesn’t turn out that way. Every scene had its place, and nothing felt unnecessary. The plot was well-woven, and was worth the watch.

However, despite an alright movie, there were technical loopholes, it was quite clear that there were continuity issues, for example the scene where Madam Rhodes meets her daughter in heels after witnessing the car crash inside the lagoon, just seemed a conspicuous loophole.

Wunmi Toriola known for producing Adeda(2021), Mr Perfect(2022), makes a bold entry into the cinema space with Queen Lateefah(2024), the movie was shot in Nigeria and a host of fine Nigerian actors and Content creators.

Star Performer- Kunle Remi
