Can upcoming actors still be successful in Nollywood

In the film Industry, specifically Nollywood, we have seen actors and actresses move from their first roles to a big deal in the industry and we are pleased with their growth and the delivery of their roles.

With this growth, our palates have seemed to become bored with the same roles and the same actors. Some are even known to be stereotypical in their acts and with this, the need to give upcoming actors a chance has come to stay. You know that most actors and actresses have gotten to a level in their careers where they can command a sum for each performance or they can afford to turn down roles but what the audience really need is that they be more diverse.

Since we have seen most actors and actresses in a specific role multiple times, the need for variety has become increasingly important.

The saying “Variety is the spice of Life” is simply not wrong.

Nollywood is becoming popular and diversity in Nollywood has become increasingly important. It would be great to see that upcoming actors have a chance in the industry.

Nollywood producers have been urged to give new and upcoming actors a chance. This is not going to be to the detriment of the film produced. The right auditions should help them single out one or two actors that will delight the audience.

For Aspiring Actors

For the aspiring actors, you are probably thinking that all you see are a recycle of stars on the screen with every new movie. The question of ‘Will I become a big star in Nollywood?’ will come up or ‘Is there even space for upcoming actors?’. One thing to know is that the viewers need you. We need diversity and surprise.

A very good example is the movie ‘Living in Bondage: Breaking Free’. Recently picked by Netflix, this movie was a darling for the bored audience. You have probably seen the star actors in multiple movies and have begun to look for something intriguing in these movies.

When you noticed that the protagonist (Main Actor) is a new face, it made the movie more interesting and intriguing. The intrigue was up because we wanted to see how well the actor would deliver the role.

Don’t think that your appearance will take away from the success of a film. A good story + great directing + great performance make a good movie worth watching.

What you should understand is that you will be matched with star actors and this will help you shine better.

For Directors and Producers

As I have said, new faces don’t take the success away from the movies, we know that producers like to cast unknown names and faces in small roles but your audience is important. What we need is a fresh face that may even let us forget that we have seen the same story in multiple films. I said, may let us forget. Critics won’t.

A good story + great directing + great performance make a good movie worth watching. This formula, when seasoned with a star-studded supporting roles will make upcoming actors appreciate the industry more.

Gone are the days when you make the films that you want to make, while believing that a star-studded cast will save the film. A boring story is a boring one, no matter who acts in it. What your audience needs are fresh faces to look out for. Something new to believe in.

Films and movies are a dream you need your audience to believe in. Sell the dream. Your audiences don’t go to the cinemas to watch the same story over again because they want to. They go because there is something new in the same story.
