Mulichoice to add Netflix and Amazon Video Prime for its subscribers.
We can all attest that this has been a long time coming. Truth be told, we have gotten tired of the replays on most of Multichoice’s DSTV and GoTV’s bouquet and have begun to want something new and fresh.
Multichoice has listened to their customers and have finally signed distribution agreements with Netflix and Amazon. This will assist the brand in providing more entertainment for it over 10 million subscribers in Africa. This will also be a mutually beneficial relationship between Netflix, Amazon and Multichoice.
Multichoice Nigeria says this about the collaboration.
“We have long been a content aggregator, and this is proof of our aggregator model at work – providing simplicity, choice and convenience for our customers,” says Calvo Mawela, MultiChoice CEO.
“As our industry evolves, we believe that we are well-positioned to benefit from both worlds – a large, growing pay-TV market in Africa, as well as an emerging over-the-top (OTT) opportunity, where our own OTT services and aggregation capabilities can drive success.”
Although this may seem like the best deal for everyone, it is quite disappointing to know that these streaming services will not be added to all their bouquets on DSTV and GoTV. Only users of the DSTV Explora are granted these services. A way of Multichoice telling its users to upgrade to the Explora decoder.

Genevieve Nnaji and Akin Omotoso become Members of The Academy.
It seems that good news can still be heard when we combine Genevieve Nnaji and The Academy in the same sentence. After the nomination of the Award winning LionHeart for the Best International Feature Film Category, which is available on Netflix, Nollywood and Nigerians seemed excited with the news and felt appreciated in knowing that the Industry has finally been granted its recognition.
Alas, it was met with disappointment when the film was disqualified for being a movie with spoken English. What they wanted was more of an indigenous language for the award.
Genevieve recently became a member of the Academy when she tweeted that she was honored to become a member.
Akin Omotoso, a writer, actor, and film director was also selected to become a member of the academy. They have become members who have distinguished themselves by their contributions to theatrical motion pictures.
