A sequel to the 2018 released blockbuster “King of Boys”, Kemi Adetiba takes us on a further journey in the dynamics of power play.
Titled “King of Boys: The return of the King”, this piece sees self-exiled Alhaja Eniola Salami(Sola Sobowale) return to Nigeria after spending five years overseas, her return would however see her declare her ambition to contest for the Governorship seat of Lagos State. This decision would later create a phobia for old enemies and euphoria for old friends. With a Macchiavelian nature she navigates her way through turbulent power tussle.
More so, with a score to settle, Makanaki(Reminisce) goes all out to get revenge for those who played a part in ‘his death’, this sets up more hullabaloo for the seat of the “King of Boys”.

Released as a seven-episode series on August 27, 2021, King of Boys: The return of the King was welcomed with much excitement, as many had been eager to know what happens to Alhaja Eniola Salami next.

Produced and Directed by Kemi Adetiba, it is fair to say the movie thrills and rides on the political landscape of Nigeria’s politics.

Filled with a host of Nollywood’s finest acts, ranging from Sola Sobowale, Akin Lewis, Nse Ikpe- Etim, Toni Tones, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Keppy Ekpeyong Bassey, and many others, “King of Boys: The return of the King” does well in satisfying our craving eyes ready to be feasted on the screen.
Also, guest appearances of other Entertainment celebrities such as “Reminisce” (Remilekun Safaru), “iLLbliss” (Tobechukwu Ejiofor), and “Charly Boy” (Charles Oputa) adds more flavor to the great story line.

It’s an open secret that 21st Century movies must have the right costume to drive home their message more to the viewers, in this aspect, Kemi Adetiba does a great job. No scene can really be faulted when it comes to costuming. With no doubt, the protagonist, Alhaja Eniola Salami who was almost in every scene had very nice outfits which matched occurrences in that particular scene, her regal Abaya and mesmerizing hairband which she mostly wore were striking and exuded upper-class aura. On another note was Jumoke Randle(Nse Ekpe Etim) whose outfit also depicted a brash and arrogant wife and first lady. Great Costuming!

Great Cinematography, the media team gets this right as they had in the first “King of Boys” release also. Scenes which had Eniola’s alter ego speak were top-notch and nicely filmed.

With the way Season 1 ends, it’s clear Kemi Adetiba intends taking the viewers further on a suspense – filled journey, we however are ready to grab Season 2 with open arms.

Star Performer- Sola Sobowale
Saddled with the lead role, it’s fair and decent enough to say Sola Sobowale did a good job in executing her role professionally. Her ability to switch moods quickly and dramatize leaves her a step almost to perfection.
However, all cast were top-notch, as nothing but excellence would be accepted from viewers yearning for class and intrigue.

Can-do-better Performer- Nil
No cast can really be faulted, however, perhaps because it’s a long time from his first involvement on the movie scene, after his role as a Gangster in 1996 blockbuster movie “Backstabber”, “Charly Boy” (Charles Oputa) struggled to execute his role professionally. Well, what do we say, afterall he’s not a professional actor, it was however great seeing him on the movie screen.
