LISABI: A LEGEND IS BORN

LATEEF ADEDIMEJI CONTINUES FROM WHERE HE STOPS IN NETFLIX’S EPIC MASTERPIECE
Lisabi is back! The continuation of the prequel Lisabi:The Uprising is out on Netflix for streaming and it’s titled Lisabi:A Legend is Born. The movie continues the story of Egba folk hero,Lísàbí Agbongbo-Akala who led a revolt against the ancient Oyo oppressive Empire. The prequel had shown us the events surrounding the revolt, and this time, the sequel shows us events after the revolt.
The movie just like the prequel showcases beautiful ancient artifacts and rich historical culture. However, beyond the beautiful ancient features displayed, let us talk about the movie itself. The movie shows Lisabi who is now leading the Egba people after their succesful defeat of the Oyo armies, the Oyo kingdom is not going to give up easily, hence, a reassembled troop is sent to defeat the Egbas, but Lisabi just like the revolt attack, assembles the Egba warriors again to face the Oyo army and even with greater supernatural powers this time, and the Egba are victorious again. However, while Lisabi’s influence over his people grows, some few begin to revolt against him as their leader, it is often said that ‘uneasy lies the head that wears the crown’, and this is Lisabi’s story as a group of his own people begin to turn against him and plot his downfall, how does this play out? how does Lisabi escape the many schemes set by this group? Does he even escape at all? All answers lie in the watching the movie which stream on Netflix.
Again, we are left with some good acting as in the prequel. Lateef Adedimeji leads the front in this beautiful display again, it appears to be that the cast do not struggle with the Egba accent at all, the Egba accent was well delivered by the cast, however, it did seem like Olumide Oworu(Bejide) did struggle with not just the Egba accent but the Yoruba accent also, but this was eclipsed by the beautiful story we watched as we were entertained with some brilliant acting and a good storyline.
There were also some little avoidable errors that were noticed. For instance, for the throwback, Lisabi’s mother who was on manicure was a total blunder and should have been noticeable before release. Also, baby Lisabi on diapers? Please. Like they say, the little things matter. Well, we wouldn’t allow those obvious errors erase the fact we were entertained with something quite beautiful.
Some notable cast in this are: Lateef Adedimeji, Mo Bimpe Adedimeji, Gabriel Afolayan, Kola Ajeyemi, Seun Akindele, Olumide Oworu, Odunlade Adekola, Deyemi Okanlawon, and a host of others,
And Oh, it was nostalgic seeing Abija on screen again.
Lisabi:A Legend is born was co-produced by Lateef and Mo’ Bimpe Adedimeji, while Niyi Akinmolayan Directed.
The film may not be perfect, but it’s one of Nollywood’s powerful, emotional tributes to a legend whose story deserves to be retold.
If you appreciate history, culture, and the power of unity in the face of oppression, Lisabi 1 and 2 are solid choices for a double watch.
