SEVEN DOORS

FEMI ADEBAYO’S SEVEN DOORS TICKS ALL BOXES IN A BEAUTIFULLY TOLD EPIC STORY
Seven Doors is Femi Adebayo’s recently produced movie and it has gathered heaps of praises due to the rich and well told story. The mini series streams on Netflix and was released to the streaming platform on December 13, 2024.
The series tells the story of the plight faced by King Adedunjoye(Femi Adebayo) of Ilara Kingdom, his reign is enveloped by the sufferings of the mistakes made by his ancestors. One of his fore fathers had murdered his seven wives during his reign and used them as rituals to prolong his own life, this made the gods of the land later revisit that evil down the generation line, and King Adedunjoye must now marry seven wives to appease the gods and cleanse the land. The seven wives represent seven doors he must knock. How does he navigate this turmoil? With a loving wife Queen Amaka(Chioma Akpotha), how would he take six other wives?
On the other hand, we are entertained by Prince Adeoye(Muyiwa Ademola), who is affluent, and intends to buy his way to the throne through bribery, we are left to many laughs as the chiefs are caught in a cat and mouse game with Adeoye.
One beautiful thing about Seven Doors is the entertainment, and rich historical culture portrayed. We were educated on ancient lifestyle and also entertained with an interesting storyline, each episode in the mini series was well done and nothing really overdone.
Chioma Akpotha’s perfromance was nothing short of a stellar performance as she brought so much impeccability to her role as a Queen, it definitely must have been a challenge for her speaking the Yoruba language but she really did well especially where she sang in Yoruba for her husband, the King.
Aliu Gafar acting as Esusu was a revelation, it was beautiful watching a well done acting.
The cinematopgraphy was well done as well, scenes that had the spirits moving looked real and intriguing. It’s also worthy of note to commend the Esusu character, the character brought some fierceness to the action. It was also nice to see an ancient movie bringing the Yoruba culture and Igbo culture together, it’s high time we had movies that fostered tribal harmony
The only shortcoming of the mini-series was that it felt too short. We really wanted more. The way the movie ends, it does look like we could have a sequel in the future and we just can’t wait.
Star Performer(s)- Femi Adebayo, Chioma Akpotha, Aliu Gafar
Each of these cast really brought so much substance to the rich acting.
