KEMI ADETIBA RETURNS WITH ANOTHER BLOCKBUSTER CRIME DRAMA SERIES

Ace Producer & Director , Kemi Adetiba(King of Boys) is out with another Netflix mini-series thriller titled “To kill a Monkey”. Memories of King of Boys are still fresh, and we totally love it

To kill a Monkey is a tale of gritz, power tussle, betrayal, survival and cybercrime . The 8-episode moral descent into cybercrime and desperation tells the story of Efemini(William Benson), a struggling family man, who against all odds fights to break away from the harsh whimps of poverty. He is tech savvy with innovative ideas, but he is frustrated not having the means to execute these ideas, he however meets an old time school friend, Oboz(Bucci Franklin), a dreaded wealthy fraudster, Oboz has the means to help Efe execute his ideas. They both make a devil’s bargain and team up to execute this idea.

The drama fully unfolds when both are at crossroads over a mutual enemy who will stop at nothing to have their heads, there is a need to carefully take the next step in this seeming game of chess. Find out what happens “To kill a Monkey” shows on Netflix.

Bucci Franklin’s portrayal of Oboz is magnetic, rugged, voluble, and exuding both menace and charm. He steals nearly every scene he’s in, proving to be the show’s undeniable highlight .

William Benson also convincingly portrays Efemini’s moral conflict. Supporting cast members such as Constance Owoyomi and Stella Damasus bring nuance and gravitas .

Kemi Adetiba fearlessly wades into cybercrime, morality, grief, and familial strain, aiming to mirror contemporary Nigeria’s socio‑economics with both tension and relevance .

Well, in the midst of a well done piece, it also appears that the pilot spans nearly 57 minutes and often overstays its welcome. Too many scenes feel overly drawn‑out, while intrusive music cuts into the atmosphere rather than enhancing it. Plot moments also sometimes feel padded or formulaic Efe’s origin story and predictable setbacks lack originality
Finally, the opening occult‑ritual scene aims for atmospheric tension but lands flat due to uneven acting and misplaced musical cuesWhile To Kill a Monkey occasionally stumbles under its own ambition, largely due to pacing and script roughness, it succeeds as a character‑driven thriller thanks to its cast especially Bucci Franklin and its bold thematic choices. We are drawn to morally complex stories with a contemporary twist should find the series compelling, even if it’s not flawless.

To Kill a Monkey is a gritty, weighty journey into cyber‑underworlds, held up by electrifying performances despite stylistic and narrative misfires. It isn’t perfect, but its stakes feel real — and its lead actor, magnetic.

If you enjoy socially rooted thrillers that examine the cost of ambition, this one’s worth your time—as long as you’re prepared for a slow burn.

Some of the cast in the movie are William Benson, Bucci Franklin, Stella Damsus, Daniel Etim Effiong, Bimbo Akintola, Iretiola Doyle and a host of others.

The movie was Produced and Directed by Kemi Adetiba.
