GINGERRR: Just Like Sugar Rush And Bling Lagosians Bisola Aiyeola Stars Again

Gingerrr delivers action, drama, and comedy. The Nollywood movie begins by leaving you wondering what genre it is. It presented a multitude of things to viewers in the first few minutes before everything started making sense.

When a high-stakes heist becomes their only hope of escape from the life they know to the life they want, four women with nothing to lose brought toogether by fate, must take a stand! Bound by a shared vendetta, they join forces to pull off a daring heist, but their alliance is tested when each one reveals a hidden agenda to betray the others.

The standout star of the movie for me is Bisola Aiyeola (Da Silva). She nailed it in two instances, making her a delight to watch. The first instance was when she spoke with an American accent. She was so fluent at it that I almost asked if she had ever lived in America. While I was still basking in her brilliance, she delivered another superb scene in which she spoke English with a French accent. She sounded like an elite lady from the Victorian era. Aside from her brilliant French accent, her acting in that scene was top-notch. I also need to commend the sound department and the directors for everything they did to add to the mood of that scene.

Another standout performance was delivered by Odunlade Adekola, who starred as Ade Shine. He was demonised by hearsay, but I appreciate how the directors gradually unravelled his innocence and the reason behind his actions. Don’t get me wrong, Ade Shine was no saint, but an underworld boss. He only had two faults, but I will not mention the first to avoid spoilers. The second fault, which shouldn’t really be a fault, is Ade Shine having an interest in the box of gold left behind by Goldy. Other people also had an interest in the box of gold, so an underworld boss should not be an exception.

Once you can overlook minor flaws, you will have yourself an awesome movie to watch, because Gingerrr delivers no dull moments. The drama is in full dose, and a little comedy was sprinkled on it to produce a light mood. The locations are good, especially the Makoko settings and the rooftop scene where Ade Shine was dealing with Martell and his girlfriend. In terms of color grading, nothing exceptional, other than contrast and saturation. I must, however, commend the lighting department for their work on the indoor and nighttime scenes.

Poduced by Ope Ajayi, Bukunmi ‘Kie Kie’ Adeaga-Ilori, Bisola Aiyeola, Onyeka Nnama, Wumi Toriola and Directed by Yemi Morafa, the movie stars Odunlade Adekola, Shaffy Bello, Bisola Aiyeola, Bolaji Ogunmola, Lateef Adedimeji, Blossom Chukwujekwu, and Bukunmi Adeaga-Ilori (Kie Kie).

Is Gingerrr recommendable? Yes. It shows across cinemas.

From All of Us at Real Nollywood, we rate the movie a 78%.
